Before departing for England, Jack took his pregnant wife back to San Diego. Bobby Jack Evans was born on May 2, 1943, in San Diego. A couple of months later, Mary received word from the Government that Jack was missing in action, somewhere over Sicily. He never came back, and subsequently was declared killed in action.
