118. JESSE GREEN4 JOHNSTON (JAMES FRANKLIN3, GEORGE GREGORY ("G.G." OR "GREG")2, LEWIS1) (#577) was born in Albertha, Randolph County, Arkansas, January 26, 1875. JESSE died January 20, 1950 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma, at 74 years of age. His body was interred January 22, 1950 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma, Rose Hill Cemetery.

Note: He married LOIS MAY CLEMENTS Albertha, Arkansas, January 26, 1896. (LOIS MAY CLEMENTS is #578.) LOIS was born Arkansas January 22, 1878. LOIS died June 1, 1931 Ardmore, Oklahoma, at 53 years of age. Her body was interred in Bradley (near Chickasha), Oklahoma, Bradley Cemetery. Notes: Jess married Lois May Clements in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1896. About 1918, Jess & Lois May (along with his brother Larkin "Dock" and family) moved to Carter County, Oklahoma. He took up residence in Ardmore and lived there the rest of his life. He died on January 20, 1950, and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, in Ardmore. Lois May died on June 6, 1931, and is buried at Bradley, near Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Jess was a veritable giant in that time, standing about 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 260 pounds. In Ardmore, he was a constable, or town marshall, and then a policeman until he retired about 1940. He preferred the night beat and was commonly known around town, by friend and foe alike, as "Midnight Jess". Jess and Lois May had no natural children, but did formally adopt one daughter Irene. Irene was born June 2, 1910, and was adopted as an infant. Jess was known to take troubled boys into his home as foster children from time to time to get them "back on the right path", one of whom was known to be a Raymond Robbins, who lived in Waco, Texas, at the time of Jess's death.
