1. LEWIS¹ JOHNSTON (probably James Lewis) (#602) was born about 1757. LEWIS died between 1825-1828 in Georgia, at about 68 years of age. His body was interred in Georgia.

It is believed that he married at least twice. He married an unknown woman in North Carolina, about 1789. She (and their first child) probably died during childbirth about 1791 in North Carolina. I think that he then married SARAH STEADMAN in North Carolina, about 1795. (SARAH STEADMAN is #1403.) SARAH was born about 1780. SARAH died between 1813 & 1818 in North Carolina, in her mid-30's.. Her body would have been  interred in North Carolina. Lewis Johnston may have married a third time to an older, unknown woman.  This third wife would have been left a widow.

Notes: Apparently, around 1820-1824, Lewis and all the children (except George Gregory, who had run away from home "to seek his fortune out West" in 1813, at the age of 14) left North Carolina and settled southeast of Atlanta, Georgia, around Henry, Butts, and Newton Counties. Lewis probably died a couple of years later, and is buried somewhere in that area.

LEWIS JOHNSTON  and SARAH STEADMAN had the following family:

+ 3 ii. LINDSEY JOHNSTON was born May 1, 1796.

4 iii. WILLIAM B. JOHNSTON (#605) was born North Carolina 1797. WILLIAM died at  unknown date. He married ELIZABETH HILL in Newton County, Georgia, in 1832. (ELIZABETH HILL is #813.) ELIZABETH was born and died at unknown dates.

+ 5 iv. GEORGE GREGORY ("G.G." OR "GREG") JOHNSTON   was born August 11, 1799.

 6 v. SARAH (OR SALLIE) JOHNSTON (#609) was born North Carolina about 1802. SARAH died at date unknown.

7 vi. NELLIS (OR NELLIE) JOHNSTON (#610) was born in North Carolina about 1805. NELLIS died at date unknown.

+ 8 vii. STEADMAN JOHNSTON was born March 31, 1808.

+ 9 viii. PERRY GREEN JOHNSTON was born January 16, 1810.
