24. WILLIAM PERRY GREEN³ JOHNSTON (GEORGE GREGORY ("G.G." OR "GREG")², LEWIS¹) (#700) was born in Purdy, McNairy County, Tennessee on December 3, 1833. WILLIAM died July 26, 1896 in Randolph County, Arkansas, at 62 years of age. His body was interred in 1896 in Randolph County, Arkansas, Ingram Cemetery.

He married three times. He married LURANA INGRAM in Randolph County, Arkansas, March 17, 1853. (LURANA INGRAM is #701.) LURANA was born in Arkansas 1835. LURANA was the daughter of JAMES P. INGRAM and REBECCA MANSKER. LURANA died December 1865 in Randolph County, Arkansas, at 30 years of age. Her body was interred in Arkansas, probably Ingram Cemetery.

He married JANE E. ROSS in Randolph County, Arkansas, on July 26, 1866. (JANE E. ROSS is #702.) JANE was born in 1841 in North Carolina.  JANE died about 1876 in Randolph County, Arkansas.  Since the 6th child of Jane Ross (WPG's 12th) was given a name (Joseph), it is quite possible that it was born alive.  However, it is highly probable that both the mother and the child died as a result of the birthing process, if not immediately, within a very short time there after. When WPG and Jane Ross married in 1866, he already was a well to do farmer in the Little Black township.  However, the 1870 census finds them, with 7 children at home, plus Jane's 18 year old sister, cousin, or niece, Teressa Ross, born in North Carolina, residing in the household of a widower, A. C. Gamel, and his 4 children.  I have no idea why.  Perhaps they had just outgrown their house, and were building a new one.  Or perhaps it had been destroyed while he was away during the war, or at least fell into such a state of disrepair the it had to be rebuilt, or maybe his new wife just didn't want to live with the memories in the 1st wife's home.

He married PERNICIA JANE (LEWIS) POWELL in Randolph County, Arkansas, March 3, 1878. (PERNICIA J. (LEWIS) POWELL is #703.) PERNICIA was born in Arkansas on July 2, 1853.  Pernicia died on December 5, 1930 in Corning, Clay County, Arkansas, at 77 years of age.  Her body was interred in Randolph County, Arkansas, Ingram Cemetery under the name Jane Ingram. Jane married J. W. Ingram after the death of W.P.G. Johnston. Charles Gregory Johnston in his recollections says about her, ".....Aunt Jane was married 4 times and had eleven children, was a step-mother to 34 children and died at the age of 77 years.  Great is her reward."

120 i. JAMES LEWIS⁴ JOHNSTON (#921) was born Randolph County, Arkansas in July 1855. JAMES died 1924 in Reyno, Randolph County, Arkansas, at 69 years of age.

122 iii. WILLIAM L. JOHNSTON (#924) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1857. WILLIAM died between 1860 and 1870..

123 iv. THOMAS H. JOHNSTON (#925) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1861. THOMAS died before 1880.

124 v. LYDIA H. JOHNSTON (#926) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1863. LYDIA died before 1889.

125 vi. JOHN FLETCHER JOHNSTON (#927) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1865. JOHN died on date unknown. He married SUSAN C. COX in Randolph County, Arkansas, July 2, 1885. (SUSAN C. COX is #928.) SUSAN was born on date unknown. SUSAN died on date unknown.

126 vii. ROBERT G. JOHNSTON (#929) was born in Arkansas in 1867. ROBERT died on date unknown. He married SARAH L. INGRAM in Randolph County, Arkansas, August 6, 1888. (SARAH L. INGRAM is #930.) SARAH was born in Randolph County, Arkansas   in 1869. SARAH was the daughter of J. W. "BLIND BILL" INGRAM and REBECCA MANSKER (2nd). SARAH died on date unknown. Sarah L. Ingram's father, J. W. "Blind Bill" Ingram, was the brother of WPG Johnston's 1st wife, Lurana Ingram.  Their mother (J. W.'s and Lurana's ) was Rebecca Mansker. J. W. "Blind Bill" was married to Rebecca Malinda Mansker, who was distantly related to Rebecca Mansker's father, George Mansker.  Remember that Robert G. Johnston was the son of WPG;s 2nd wife Jane Ross.  However, to add one more tie between the WPG Johnston family and the Ingram family, WPG's 3rd wife, Pernicia Jane (Lewis) Powell Johnston, married J. W. "Blind Bill" Ingrams, the father of Sarah L. Ingram, after WPG died.

127 viii. RUFUS MATHEW JOHNSTON (#931) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas on October 15, 1869. RUFUS died June 25, 1955 in Randolph County, Arkansas, at 85 years of age. His body was interred in Randolph County, Arkansas, Johnston Cemetery.

128 ix. SAMUEL PHIPPS  JOHNSTON (#932) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1871. SAMUEL died young after 1880.

129 x. WALTER STIDMAN JOHNSTON (#933) was born Randolph County, Arkansas February 11, 1873. WALTER died October 30, 1964 in Randolph County, Arkansas, at 91 years of age.

130 xi. MARTHA JINNIE JOHNSTON (#935) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1875. MARTHA died on date unknown. She married E. E. OWENS (#2492)

130a xii. JOSEPH JOHNSTON (#2033) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in 1876.  Joseph  died shortly after birth in Randolph County, Arkansas.  It is highly likely that Jane Ross Johnston and her son both died as a result of the child birthing process.

132 xiv. HORACE BURTON JOHNSTON (#938) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas, April 10, 1880. HORACE died on date unknown. He married MARTHA PRATT (#2495) in Randolph County, Arkansas on August 14, 1905.

133 xv. MARY ARENA "MOLLY"  JOHNSTON (#939) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in June of  1882. MARY died on date unknown.

134 xvi. IDA B. JOHNSTON (#940) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas on March 30,1884. IDA died in October 1973.

135 xvii. JOAB  (JOE ABB) JOHNSTON (#942) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas in January of 1886. JOAB died on date unknown.

136 xviii. AMANDA ELIZABETH  JOHNSTON (#941) was born Randolph County, Arkansas on August  7, 1888 . AMANDA died on December 21, 1949.

136  xix.  WINNIE LEOTA JOHNSTON (#2034) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas, in June 1891.

136  xx.  JESSE LEMAN JOHNSTON     (#2035) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas, on April 27,1893. Married MAY YOUNG. Jesse died in February 1974.

136  xxi. PAUL MARTIN. JOHNSTON (#2036) was born in Randolph County, Arkansas, on March 24,  1895. Married ANNA VIRGINIA HENSON on February 10, 1917.
