13. MARY CATHARINE³ JOHNSTON (LINDSEY², LEWIS¹) (#748) was born in Newton County, Georgia on March 12, 1834. MARY died October 3, 1878 in Lake Creek, Delta County, Texas, at 44 years of age. Her body was interred in Delta County, Texas, Pierce Cemetery.

She married twice. She married THOMAS HARDAWAY JONES JOHNSON in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, April 1, 1851. (THOMAS HARDAWAY JONES JOHNSON is #1355.) THOMAS was born in Georgia on June 14, 1828. THOMAS was the son of SANKEY T. JOHNSON and REBECCA PETERSON JONES. THOMAS died June 5, 1862 in Corinth, Mississippi or Pontotoc County, Mississippi, at 33 years of age. His body was interred in Saltillo, Lee County, Mississippi, Kyle Cemetery.

She then married WILLIAM "BILL" EDWARD COMBS in Pontotoc, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, February 14, 1865. (WILLIAM "BILL" EDWARD COMBS is #1156.) WILLIAM was born November 16, 1819. WILLIAM died September 27, 1878 in Lake Creek, Delta County, Texas, at 58 years of age. His body was interred in Delta County, Texas, Pierce Cemetery.

MARY CATHERINE JOHNSTON and THOMAS HARDAWAY JONES JOHNSON had the following family:

+ 56 i.JOHN WESLEY JOHNSON was born April 5, 1852.

+ 57 ii. SANK THOMAS⁴ "Sankey T" JOHNSON (#1359) was born in Tupelo, Lee County, Mississippi, January 25, 1855. SANK died October 1, 1929 at 74 years of age. 

NOTE: We know that Sank Thomas "Sankey T" Johnson married twice.  In 1879, at the age of 24, he married a Miss Mary Holley, in Delta County, Texas.  Sank and Mary had at least 3 children before she died in 1890.  We have a picture, taken in the 1880's, that shows Sank and Mary with the 3 children, whose names we do not have.  

In 1894, when Sank was 39, he married a Miss Vesta Ann Miller (Vesta Miller is #1360), the daughter of Wright Smith Miller of Delta County.  Sank and Vesta had an unknown number of children.  One of them was named Wright Miller Johnson, born in Delta County in 1913.  In about 1916, Sank moved his family, along with 3 of Vesta's sisters and their families, to the Slaton, Texas area.  In December 1916, Vesta gave birth to a still born child.  Vesta Miller Johnson died in February 1917.  We have had some contact with one of their descendants, Erwin Johnson, a grandson of Wright Miller Johnson.  We would like to hear more from him.

58 iii. JAMES "JIM" LINDSEY JOHNSON (#1361) was born on June 23, 1857, in Mississippi, probably Tupelo. JAMES died May 2, 1922 at 64 years of age. He married MARY L. STEGAL on December 7, 1879. (MARY L. STEGAL is #1362.)

59 iv. WILLIAM F. JOHNSON (#1363) was born in Mississippi on  July 29, 1859, probably Tupelo. WILLIAM died about May 1860, at less than one year of age.

60 v. EDD PETERSON JOHNSON (#1364) was probably born in Mississippi, July 29, 1861, probably Tupelo.

MARY CATHERINE JOHNSTON and WILLIAM "BILL" EDWARD COMBS had the following family:

61 vi. ROBERT LEE "BOB" COMBS (#1365) was born in Pontotoc, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, December 17, 1865.

62 vii. SUE CATHERINE COMBS (#1366) was born in Blossom, Lamar County, Texas December 12, 1869. She married WILL PRATT on unknown date. (WILL PRATT is #1367.)

63 viii. LILLIE COMBS (#1368) was born in Blossom, Lamar County, Texas about 1870. LILLIE died about 1871.

64 ix. CHARLES PINER COMBS (#1369) was born in Blossom, Lamar County, Texas, January 9, 1873. He married IDA MILLER on October 29, 1896. (IDA MILLER is #1370.)

+ 65 x. ANNIE JOSEPHINE COMBS was born October 1, 1875.
